Fruits of Vietnam

Yesterday, Michael's coworker Kenny brought a couple Vietnamese fruits for us to try before our trip. The first fruit seen pictured below is called a dragon fruit or pitaya. As you can see, it has the WILD pink and green exterior and a really strange black and white spotted interior.

The dragonfruit is to be eaten like any citrus fruit or melon-- eating the center only. We thought the dragonfruit tasted a bit like a potato but it had the consistancy of a cucumber. Very interesting!!

The other fruit that Kenny brought for us to try is called the Rambutan or Chom Chom. Now those little furry guys were something we could get into!!! The outside was tough- covered with little 'spikes' and the inside was an egg shaped fruit with a pit in the center. The fruit was VERY delicious and refereshing. Here are a couple pictures of our Rambutan fruit:

We will definitely have to try more of these Vietnamese fruits and will look for these when we are in Vietnam. Hard to believe we leave in 6 days!!!

You will find both of those fruits ALL OVER Vietnam! Yummy!

I'm so excited to follow your journey to Vietnam. I'm sure the next few days will fly by and you'll be there before you know it. :)

I've had the freeze-dried rambutan. You can get it at Trader Joe's. Not as yummy as the fresh version, I'm sure, but still good. Have a great trip!
